I asked the question 1st service. How does Vinegar technically descale your coffee machine? I thin I even asked the church to ask a chemist. They did. We have smart people at High Point. Here is the Technical response.
"What is the chemical reason my coffee pot stops working and I have to use vinegar to clean it. Give me some chemical details"
Sent from "a senior chemical engineer from Cargill"
"Its from a build up of calcium carbonate scale. The stuff has an inverse solubility so it tends to come out of solution on hot surfaces like heating elements in coffee pots and water heaters."Calcium carbonate and other carbonates are very soluble in acidic solutions. Vinegar is dilute acetic acid so it dissolves the carbonate scale."
