One of the points that didn't make it into Sundays message.
When working through your decisions ask... What do smart people say?
Now notice that I said smart people. We all need good advice, but we have also all gotten advice that is from a well meaning but questionable source. In my connection group we laugh because many of the guys have talked to there buddies about problems they have been going through and the response is… that’s too bad…lets get wasted. Not so good advice. The problem is not resolved and may get worse with that kind of advice.
If we are looking for certain outcome in our lives, we want to ask people who have been able to achieve it. If it is financial success, it will be someone who has done well with money, if it is marital success it will be someone who has a great marriage, if it is spiritual intimacy with God it needs to be someone who shows evidence of that in there lives. When we see the results we wanting some one else, get their help.
Listen to advice and accept instruction, and in the end you will be wise. Proverbs 19:20 (NIV)
God made Eve for Adam for the specific reason that He knew we needed another person in our life to work through life's problems with. Often our mind can play tricks on us if we are all alone with our thoughts.
This is another reason to connect in a small group. Because my guess is that there is someone you can learn from, and they can learn from you. You might be great with your job and they might be great with their kids, get advice. That is what community is all about. The cross pollination of ministry. We are all called to pastor and disciple. I can not nor should I be everyones spiritual sounding board. We are all called to be Priests and that makes us all capable at varying levels to minister to one another and receive ministry from one another.
So When walking through big Questions. Ask trusted sources that have a measure of success in there life with making good decisions.
